There is a whole heap of reasons why we stop playing team sports and in general, being active.

Time poor, not enough money, health reasons, no motivation or age are the general culprits, so Greg. set about outlining some ways to get involved, with minimal commitment.

Let’s do the rounds

Already a member of a sporting club?

Existing sporting club members, e.g. state league football club like our mates at the Eagles, should check out their partner discounts for access to a local gym, or see what facilities you can access as a member, maybe an onsite gym or other equipment you could utilize.

The cost of memberships for some of these clubs may also be subsidized if you volunteer your services.

Major Event

Fun runs or community bike rides, can be such an easy way to get involved, the event organisers provide all the motivation, infrastructure and services you need.

The City to Bay put on FREE training sessions and help set you up for a good experience. Join Team Greg. at the City to Bay this September

Filling in

Being a ring in has its perks – it’s like trying before you buy! No commitment, you may just have to pay a weekly attendance fee and make sure you have the right gear.

Finding teams and fill ins is what Greg. is good at! Drop Greg. a note letting him know what activity or sport you are looking for and what area, and let the magic happen!

SA AFL masters huddle

Get back into football with AFL Masters and AFL 9’s

Play AFL Masters, it’s footy and its fun! There are 16 clubs in SA alone and there is minimal commitment with games generally played fortnightly. More info on Masters Football.

Or try AFL 9’s – fast and fun and non-contact! Find out more about AFL 9’s.

Have a hit of tennis

Tennis is a fun sport that everyone can play & it’s pretty easy to get started. Look for open court sessions or hire a court. Find where to play tennis.

Hire some gear

The sharing economy is rich right now – hit up the members of your local Buy Nothing Facebook group to borrow some equipment, check out Marketplace to pick up something second hand, try Quipmo, a peer to peer gear rental platform or a traditional equipment hire shop like bike shops or golf club hire – try our friends down at Grange Golf Club.

Looking at getting started in activities like surfing or snorkelling or mountain bike riding, look for a qualified tour company that provides all the gear, so you can learn what equipment you may need and also if you actually like the activity, before you make a commitment.

Play time

Get on Greg, choose what you are interested in and look through Connect at the Clubs and Business and following those providing experiences you are keen on.

If you are raring to go, set up a public Group and name it something like Tennis at Henley Beach or Stand up paddle boarding at Noarlunga, and post that mates are welcome to join in.

Or invite your mates, check your kit and get to it.

Follow up with a motivation post in the app so we can all feel good about it!
